DAVID WILKEY

His early work was influenced by the surrealists, in particular Magritte, and he went on from there painting realist style paintings based on his own photographs. Nearly always painting in oils, he has also dabbled in acrylics but found oils much easier work with starting with a monotone sketch for tonal values and working this up into a finished painting.

David worked for many years in the design and print industry and doing painting and photography in his spare time; he switched to full time film making in the 1990's. It was at this period that his painting took a back seat but resumed again in 2007 when he started painting street scenes. He is now retired and painting is his main occupation - got his priorities right at last!!

He exhibits locally and has published several books on his painting and photography as well as a popular book on waterfalls in the Brecon Beacons.
