HELEN STANFIELD

Helen is a self-taught artist who has always enjoyed creative activities while working and raising a family. She recently successfully completed a Diploma in Oil Painting taught by Martin Kinnear founder of the Norfolk Painting School. She spent quite a lot of her adult life living and working abroad and it was while living in Malaysia that she became interested in the process of batik and silk painting. She gained a unique insight of this technique over a period spanning a decade, when she was taught by a local artist , who now works as a designer and advisor at a government-run organisation in Borneo that promotes Malaysian batik design internationally.

Many of her silk paintings are inspired by the natural world, especially the strong shapes and colours of tropical flowers and plants. Her work is intended to be hung rather than made into home furnishings or clothing and as such is always framed.

She also work in oils, acrylics, pen and ink and mixed media, as well as having participated in public charity art projects King Bladud’s Pigs in Bath (2008), Lions of Bath (2010) and Swans of Wells (2012). She exhibited at Bath Society of Artists Summer Exhibition 2014 and her silk painting ‘Autumn Glow’ was accepted for the Leisure Painter Open Competition 2014 at Patchings Art Centre in Nottingham. She won the Public Vote in the Mayor of Bath’s Art Exhibition in November 2017 for her intricate drawing ‘Walk The Lines- Bath'

She has been a member of Bathampton Art Group since 2006 is part of the organising team for the Monday evening art group. She participates in the annual Newbridge Arts Trail in Bath in May.
